The Great Streets team
Ashley Stracke is the Mayor's Director of Neighborhood Services. She oversees the Great Streets Initiative as well as the policy direction of Recreation and Parks, Library, Animal Services, Cultural Affairs, Aging, Disability, El Pueblo, and the Zoo. Ashley has over ten years of experience working for the City of Los Angeles in a variety of capacities including human resources and budget/performance management. While she is a transplant from Texas, Ashley has made Los Angeles her home for the last fourteen years. During that time, she has led a Girl Scout Troop, been a docent for the Los Angeles Conservancy, and served on the East Hollywood Neighborhood Council. In her spare time, you’ll find her exploring the most unique parts of the world from the rainforests of Ecuador and the hidden flea markets of Moscow to the remote islands of Kiribati.
Wajenda manages the Great Streets Initiative in the Mayor’s Office of City Services. Before joining the Great Streets team, he worked as senior policy analyst for the Advancement Project where he served as a project manager on the RACE COUNTS initiative. He also worked for Urban Rising Group and T.R.U.S.T South LA where he served as a policy analyst and contributed to Metro’s Rail-to-River project currently in the implementation phase, and the Electric Vehicle Car-Sharing project recently launched by Mayor Eric Garcetti among other projects. Wajenda was awarded the UCLA Sustainability Grand Challenge Fellowship to serve in Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Office of Sustainability. Wajenda holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Development from UCLA (Go Bruins!). A transplant from Zambia and now enthusiastic Angeleno, he is also a proud husband and father of two girls. When not championing social equity policies or twirling with his daughters, he enjoys cheering on “The Gunners” (Arsenal Football Club) and LAFC.
